Hey people, need a little bit of help here. I’ve tried to get a proper domain name for my own blog…but i couldn’t find any suitable one.
www.alvinlim.com has been taken
www.alvinlim.net belongs to one property guy in Singapore
www.alvinlim.name ? www.alvinlim.biz ? www.alvinlim.net.my (needs to send in my photocopied identity card =_=) …and it sounds like www.tm.net.my.
.com/.net/.org/.us/.info/ .biz/.name
I didn’t know they actually have .info, .us, .biz and .name before this. All of those do sound weird.
Gosh, i’m clueless.

http://www.blog.alvinlim.com wouldn’t be possible because that uses alvinlim.com as a domain, and you already said alvinlim.com isn’t available. The “blog” in front is a subdomain. (Like breaking up parts of your domain and using them for different purposes.) Same with http://www.blog.alvinlim.thinker.com — you’d need to get thinker.com as a domain name first.
alvinlim.info is quite appropriate I think since this blog gives info about you
Generally,
.com is supposed to be for companies/commercial purposes
.org for organisations (associations, societies, NGOs, etc)
.net for network-related organisations/activities (I guess IT-related stuff)
Malaysia is quite strict about this classification. For example, if you want to register .com.my, you need to show the company’s registration forms with the Registrar of Companies (ROC). But for plain .com domains, it’s open to anyone who wants to register.
