Been quite busy the past few days and din realize my last post was…er.. 4 days back?
Anyway, if any of you noticed, i’ve mentioned in my previous post that i’ve won the Animax story writing award for South East Asia…and i won like USD 2k. Animax (channel 25 on Astro) has been showing off my “photogenic” look during prime time (7-10pm) for more than a week now…and i’ve been receiving calls to congratulate me and…to ask me to give away free meals (since every one of them knows i’ve won USD 2k).
To be honest, i don’t really mind treating my good friends or those who have helped me, to a nice meal. But…those who called me up for a free meal…..and never give up even after i pretend to forget about it…. *sighs*, what do you actually do with those people?
Some of my friends (somehow) know about my little windfall….bonus, headhunting allowances, prize money, etc… and they kept on insisting i’m so rich bla bla bla… but that’s one thing that they do not know (or do not wish to admit). I’ve worked hard for all these things. I’ve spent longer hour than them in office, i’ve took the trouble to look around for the suitable people for my team (headhunting allowances) and i spent hours n hours n hours on the Animax story. They on the other hand, did not do anything to deserve those.
To me, there are many ways in this world to earn money. It’s just a question of whether you are willing to make some efforts in such things. So please, if you are this so-called “freeloader friend” who tries to leech away people’s money…or just being jealous of them, do everyone a favor and stop it. Don’t being jealous because you can do the same thing if you want to.
As for me…….i think i will pretend i donno anything again. Hahahaha. I will, of course, thank the people who helped me with the story – Angie, Jason, Julie, Boo, Yu Xiang, Benny, Wei Cher and K Wai Ling.
p/s…i might offend some of my friends, but well…i cannot please everyone right?
To the few close friends of mine, i’ll still treat you all to a nice meal even if your name is not listed above.

Screw them la, they aren’t real friends?
Just ask them straight:
“Oh free dinner? Did you help me write the story? No right, so why should you help me spend the proceeds?!”

Hey,
Congrats on the prize. You are right, you get something because you have made the effort to get it. Nobody should claim it from you.

ShaolinTiger,
I won’t be so mean. I’ll just pretend i donno anything…and say i have short term memory lost. Hahaha. If they keep reminding me…well, i’ll jz pretend i keep forgetting about it.
Bee,
Not everyone thinks the same. Some people will keep saying u r richer than them…and its good to celebrate happy stuff….since u won, bla bla bla. I’ve had this bad experience…when i got my bonus, and my friends said i shld give them a treat…and i said nope coz i plan to save it…then they started labelling me as “stingy”.
maybe i m? ahahaha. i don mind u know
Wong,
Thanks man.
If not for the help of the friends mentioned above, i wouldn’t have come out with the story. Its quite a kiddish story la…since the target age grp is 15-25. Hahah. It’s really meant to be ‘anime’ story.

Never believe in free ride.
If you read about the millionaire next door book, it talks some on the similiar topics.
I am a true blue (even though I have brown eye) capitalist so I don’t believe in free ride.
I was born with many physical defects than a lot of people but never in my life, I look for free ride or free meals.
Ask them to go fly kites ! Toast them !

Damn! *cirnelle quickly deletes comment asking for free meal from alvin*
Err… yeah, so totally agreeing with you on that.
But then again, there are so many ways to see this. If someone introduces something, say in your case, suitable persons and say, you didn’t have to work hard for it. You earn a headhunting allowance. To you, that is legitimate remuneration for your effort. In another “world”, someone high up there in politics introduces a “contractor” to the government and gets paid “commission” or referral fee. Say, it is a percentage of however much the contract is worth. He does nothing other than being in the right place, at the right time, with the right “name”. I’m digressing, aren’t I? Sigh! Monday blues.

biblicalconservative,
I really respect your attitude. Free ride or free meals only come IF the person offers them….not the other way round.
Some people, expected a “thank you” note from people when they do something “good”… that’s bad enough. This, well, is actually much worse…they din do any “good” and yet, they expect something from u. LOL.
Cirnelle,
Call up McDonald hotline and put the bill on Alvin Lim, okay? Just this once, i’ll give u a treat.
Mm..IMO, those “someone high up” did take the efforts to cari and gali sini sana for these opportunities. True, the money they earn or the commission they get is not that “legal”…but well, they still made some efforts for it and they are putting themselves at a high risk. Imagine someone came over n chk the account book and found so and so have been misusing the money….
ok, maybe we’re jst jealous. donno bout u, but i know i am.

Alvin,
Sorry lah, it was me who forget to log off from my hubby blog – biblicalconservative.
Sorry !
Cirnelle,
How long will that last ? “He does nothing other than being in the right place, at the right time, with the right “name””
Connection will only get you so far, it is you that make it to the top.
I don’t know but I have the cowboy spirit, like the cowboy you see in Western movie (when American talk about Western movies they mean those pioneers who moved from developed East coast – New England, New hemisphere areas to the West for gold mines along CA, Navada, etc.. areas, it was hard life but see how these states have developed today California ?).
I have been ‘machai’ for big boss too, when the boss called us in his “Jamban” break to buy certain stocks because the boss want to distribute some of his wealth to us “Machia”, we “Machia” did just execute a couple thousand blocks of shares.
But profit without much works does not go too long !
.
I still believe in my Western cowboy spirit, turn desert into oasis , go visit the city called phoenix in Nevada, you will never knew you are in a desert.

Jamy,
Haha no problem leh. It’s ok. So now i will know it when your husband visits my blog!
Profit w/o work will never last long…this I truly believe. Good opportunities (albeit how illegal they are) dont come often and of course, most of them don’t last long as well. This “fella” can be at the right place at the right time with the right name……but how long? It won’t last forever.
Another thing is…satisfaction. Life is all bout being happy..pursue your dreams, achieve great things to gain great satisfaction.. w/o putting in any effort to do something, i don think u’ll get the satisfaction u need. Not sure bout others..but to me, money and ‘luxuries’ are not as attractive as achieving my goals/ambitions with my own hard work + efforts.
To me, having an easy life is not really that nice. Having a challenging and interesting life sound a lot better
